After decades of discussion, possible land purchases, needs assessments and designs, the moment had arrived.
A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Thursday, Oct. 28 to mark the start of construction for a new police station at 116 Central St. (Route 12) in downtown Leominster.
The estimated $26 million project should be completed in about a year.
“I know I share in how excited everyone is that finally we’re going to get going on this project for real,” Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella said.
Acting Police Chief Aaron Kennedy, who was hired just after Mazzarella’s first year as mayor in 1994, said he is also excited about the project moving ahead.
